Family Sea Turtle Nesting and Conservation Workshop

Friday, August 7, 2026 (9:00 AM - 10:00 AM) (EDT)

Description

Hands-On Sea Turtle Science on Topsail Island 🐢 Join local coastal biologist and sea turtle specialist Chris Lener for an interactive, field-based exploration of sea turtle life history and nesting behavior on Topsail Island. This experience is grounded in real sea turtle ecology and designed to engage participants through observation, investigation, and guided discussion—right on the beach. Participants will trace a sea turtle's life history from hatchling to adulthood, exploring how turtles use coastal habitats at each stage of their lives. Through hands-on activities and guided observation, participants will learn how nesting sites are identified and protected, examine real signs left behind during nesting season, and investigate the challenges sea turtles face throughout their journey. This interactive approach builds a deeper understanding of sea turtle ecology and the science behind their conservation. Designed for families and learners of all ages, this program connects people directly to the living coastal environment while building awareness, understanding, and stewardship of Topsail Island’s sea turtles.

Tickets are required for everyone ages 3 and up. Thank you!
