Ask The Expert: Web Design Platforms
What do you need to know about do-it-your-self website and web designers
We often get asked about the difference between using a web design company and using a do-it-yourself website builder.
There are MANY differences, but the one that is most important to us is the fact that with most DIY platforms, if not all, you do not own your website. Sure, you are paying to build the website yourself, so why don't you own it? You are using their proprietary software to build the website, so you do not own it. In other words, if you ever get to the point where you can't achieve what you want with their software, or are tired of how slow your website loads, you can't move your website to another platform. You have to start all over again.
Another is you don't know what you don't know. Yes, many people can make their website look good, but have they followed Google guidelines? Most individuals don't know the guidelines, that's why it's best to turn to a professional.
Having a website that "looks great" and having it "look great and function properly" are two different things! There are H tags, keywords, domain submitting, H tag hierarchy, and many other that need to be followed. Your pictures need to be named with a brief description, among many others.
We are here to answer any of your questions. We love educating and helping small businesses have an amazing online presence. Remember: Friends don't let friends have ugly websites!
