Scholarships available for area high school seniors
TOPSAIL BEACH – Applications for scholarships offered by the Historical Society of Topsail Island (HSTI) are now available online and at the counseling centers of Topsail High School, Dixon High School, and Pender Early College. Early College and homeschooled seniors must live in the Dixon High School or Topsail High School attendance area.
Applicants must choose a historical event which occurred in Onslow or Pender counties. “The HSTI Education Committee evaluates each scholarship entry using a blind entry scoring rubric”, said Edna Smith, Interim Chairperson of the HSTI Education Committee. She added, “The Historical Society of Topsail Island scholarships are awarded on several criteria, including an unweighted 2.5 grade point average or above, student activities, and original essays or art.” Students who are planning to attend a two or four-year college or trade school are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is February 15, 2024. The scholarships will be awarded at a special luncheon at the Historic Assembly Building.
