Share the Table Announces Ribbon Cutting for New Location
Tour the new facility
Four years ago, Share the Table Executive Director Dawn Ellis had a vision of a larger facility that would serve more food-insecure neighbors in the area. That vision has become a reality for the client-choice food pantry, through hard work and the support of the community. The ribbon cutting for the new facility will be held on Tuesday, August 27, at 5:30pm.
Founded in 2010, Share the Table is a 501(3)c non-profit charity organization serving individuals in Pender County, Onslow County, and surrounding communities. The organization’s mission is to respond to God’s call to nourish the community by providing food where there is hunger, a fellowship where there is loneliness, and education to end the cycle of food insecurity.
Share the Table’s facility on Hwy 50 in Hampstead had become too cramped to properly serve the organization’s clients. The new building, at the corner of Hwy 17 and Perkins Road in Hampstead, will triple the available space for existing programs and enable the organization to develop new programs, with an emphasis on healthy food options. There is more storage space for fresh produce and dairy and classroom space for educational programs on nutritious meal preparation on a budget.
A multi-year capital campaign has garnered the support of individuals, businesses, and other community organizations. Share the Table has also received a number of grants for the new facility as well as for developing the healthy options program and the educational programs.
Operations will be moved to the new location at 21 Perkins Road on Tuesday, August 20, with the food pantry opening at 10:00am. The ribbon cutting on August 27 is hosted by the Greater Topsail Area Chamber of Commerce. All are invited to attend and tour the new facility.
