Topsail Chamber Presents Six Awards to Local Businesses
TOPSAIL BEACH – The Greater Topsail Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism presented six awards to outstanding members.
At the May 15 Annual Chamber Awards Luncheon the following awards were presented:
Person of the Year Award to Peggy Fussell, owner of Surfside Sportswear and Gifts. Fussell has owned and operated the business for more than 48 years.
The Non-Profit of the Year Award was presented to the Reel Housewives of Topsail Island and founder Annette Erny. RHOTI raises money through an annual bike ride on the island. All proceeds benefit local women and their families who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Cookie Tilghman was presented the Volunteer of the Year Award. Tilghman volunteers in the ambassador program and the chamber office.
The Hospitality Business of the Year Award was presented to Rick’s Restaurant and owners Linda and Rick Bumgardener.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Breezeway Restaurant and Motel. The Cherry Family owns and operates the Breezeway Restaurant, Pender County’s longest-serving restaurant. It has been in business for more than 75 years. Accepting the award was Kathy Cherry.
The Business of the Year Award was presented to Topsail Magazine and its owner, Justin Williams.
The annual luncheon was conducted at The Assembly Building in Topsail Beach. The Historical Society of Topsail Island was a sponsor of the event. D.R. Horton was a major sponsor. The luncheon was catered by Middle of the Island Catering.
The Greater Topsail Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism is a membership-driven organization serving Pender and Onslow communities from Scotts Hill to Sneads Ferry as well as businesses in Wallace, Wilmington, and beyond.
