What if it rains on my Topsail Island vacation?

What if it rains on my Topsail Island vacation?

Fun indoor activities to do with the family

You’ve planned your beach vacation for months. But you didn’t plan on a rainy day or even a rainy afternoon.

Don’t shutter yourself in the beach house. There’s so much to discover indoors!

We have several businesses that provide entertainment for families. Here’s some of our suggestions.

There’s plenty of shops and boutiques to visit. Each has its own unique personality. Visit our website, topsailchamber.org for a list of shops.

We suggest, however, that you visit Topsail Island Trading Company in Surf City. Sample the fudge and then purchase Topsail-opoly, the island version of the popular Monopoly game. It will entertain the family on those rainy afternoons.

Here’s another suggestion. Let the kids get creative. Visit Party, Paint, and Play where the children can paint anything from superheroes to sea-themed art. Party Paint and Play offers specially-themed classes, so visit them online.

Let the children (and adults) burn off some energy at the Topsail Skate Rink in Topsail Beach. The rink is located above the Topsail Beach post office. This throwback skating rink has been featured in Our State Magazine and other media. Rent the roller skates and enjoy!

Another rainy-day adventure is visiting the Missiles and More Museum in Topsail Beach. The exhibits feature pirates, female pilots, Operation Bumblebee, and more. Operated by the Historical Society of Topsail Island, the museum is free, but donations are accepted.

On Wednesdays during the summer the historical society sponsors a free aquarium program. Children can explore topics such as sea turtles, alligators, and more.

On Thursday evenings during the summer, the historical society offers Bingo! This is a family-friendly event. Cash prizes are awarded. Concessions are available.

If you need a beach read, visit Quarter Moon Books, Gifts, & Wine Bar. The store offers a selection of new and nearly new books. Grab a cappuccino while the children browse and you shop the selection of clothing, cards, and more.  Be sure to check out Quarter Moon’s list of upcoming live music performances.

A visit to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center is a must for every Topsail Island area visitor. Reservations are required. Simply go online and pick your arrival time.

Burry Chocolates, located on US Hwy 17, is a tasty store to discover. They make their chocolates on the premises, as well as their own ice cream.

So, don’t let a little rain (or a Carolina Downpour) keep you from having fun on your Topsail Island vacation.

Call us or stop by the office for maps and information. Our office is located at 13775 NC Hwy 50. Our office number is 910-329-4446. Visit online at topsailchamber.org.
