Greater Topsail Community Garden Celebrates First Harvest with Generous Donation to Share the Table
Hampstead, N.C., (March 27, 2024) – The Greater Topsail Community Garden, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Topsail Island and Surf City Rotary, is thrilled to announce its inaugural harvest, marking a significant milestone in the mission to cultivate community, promote sustainable living, and address food insecurity. In a heartwarming gesture of solidarity and support, the garden's dedicated volunteers have gathered abundant fresh produce to donate to Share the Table, a local organization committed to alleviating hunger in our community.
Ten volunteers joined forces to handpick ten pounds of crisp spinach, 12 pounds of vibrant kale, and half a pound of delightful breakfast radishes. These nutritious offerings, lovingly nurtured in our community garden, are estimated at nearly $175 if purchased at a local grocery store. This remarkable contribution underscores the power of collective effort in addressing food accessibility and fostering a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
"We are immensely proud of our first harvest and humbled by the opportunity to share our abundance with those in need," remarked Don Davis, Surf City Rotarian and Vice President of the Greater Topsail Community Garden. "This donation embodies the spirit of generosity and collaboration that defines our community garden. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors."
Dawn Ellis, Executive Director of Share The Table, expressed her gratitude for the generous donation from the Greater Topsail Community Garden. She stated, “This contribution of fresh produce will directly impact those facing food insecurity in our community. The support from initiatives like the community garden is vital in our mission to ensure everyone has access to nutritious meals. We are deeply appreciative of their commitment to making a difference.”
The Greater Topsail Community Garden extends its deepest gratitude to all volunteers, supporters, and partners who have contributed to this milestone moment. As we celebrate our inaugural harvest, we look forward to continuing our mission of cultivating connections, nourishing bodies, and sowing seeds of hope within the Greater Topsail community.
